Transportation Services > Safety Tips
-
Arrive at the bus stop early. If children are late to the bus stop, they may attempt to run after the bus.
-
Stand back from the road while waiting for the bus. Children should never play near the
road or move toward the bus until it has stopped completely.
-
Make sure all drawstrings, straps and scarves are tied so as not to catch on the bus doors or
railings.
-
Quickly find your seat and sit down. Do not push, shove or kick others. Be orderly and
patient.
-
The driver may assign each pupil to a seat to make loading at the school more efficient.
-
Always sit facing forward. The high backed, padded seats are designed to protect students.
-
Remain in your seat while the bus is in motion. Never stand or switch seats.
-
Keep hands and head inside the bus at all times. Do not throw anything out the window.
-
Be courteous to other students. Talk quietly. Loud sounds and unnecessary confusion may
distract the driver's attention.
-
Follow the bus driver's directions at all times.
-
Never walk behind the bus, or close to the wheels or sides.
-
Never reach under the bus. Each year students in the U.S. are injured and killed when they
reach under their school buses to pick up a paper or treasured object. Therefore, carry all
papers in a zipped book bag or satchel. Tell the driver if something blows or rolls under the
bus.
-
If you must cross the road make sure traffic has stopped. Look left, right and again left before
crossing.
