Oak Ridge Elementary School is a welcoming community of learners located in Lower Salford Township in the southern part of Souderton Area School District. We are dedicated to providing a loving learning environment for our students that inspires, fosters independence, and enriches thinking so that they can successfully face the challenges of life. Classroom supplies will be provided for students, but if you would like to purchase some of your own materials, suggested lists of supplies by grade to bring with you on the first day of school are available on our School Supply Lists page.
Five of the books that an elementary student reads in the summer can count toward their goal of reading 25 – 30 books in the next school year. In order to meet the standard for proficient readers, students need to read at least 25 books each year. We had our last Owl Time Assembly this afternoon and our kindergarteners did a great job sharing. We also ended the assembly by letting the students know they were getting their yearbooks when they returned to class. What a fun and busy day we had at Oak Ridge! Our third grade headed to the zoo for a field trip, fourth graders presented their biography projects, and Home and School hosted a Sundae Bar at lunch. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the trip, the ice cream, the Jump Rope Club and thanks to all the special guests who came and supported our fourth graders. At Oak Ridge's annual Lip Sync, children from kindergarten through 5th grade create and perform acts. There is also a teacher act and a 5th grade finale! Watch the Oak Ridge Lip Sync!
Over the past two years we have had therapy dogs visit two of our learning support classrooms throughout the year. The teachers and the district saw a variety of benefits from this program that could be offered to the whole school, so we applied for a grant to get our own therapy dog. I am excited to share that the district was awarded the grant, so we will be sharing a therapy dog with the High School. The construction is going very smoothly. On Monday they are beginning Phase 2, which includes the gym. This will cause us to shift our Parent Drop Off and Pick Up lines further down the sidewalk. It will also require the pickup students to come through the lobby as the gym entrance will be blocked off. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the new procedures. There have been a few questions about how we are handling the eclipse on Monday. We won’t be doing any special viewings with the kids, but teachers will be discussing the eclipse, and many will be visiting some of the websites tracking the event. If you would like to sign your child out to experience the event as a family, please just send a note in with your child on Monday. The dismissal will be excused. I am very excited to share that Oak Ridge is about to get a Face Lift. You may have noticed the bricks falling off the ‘front’ side of our building. In the opening to this week’s News From The Nest I explain to the kids that when we return from break the construction will be under way (weather permitting). I want to thank everyone for the support we had for our recess sledding adventures earlier in the week. I am overwhelmed with pride following our Veterans Day assembly. The students did such an amazing job singing, listening, and presenting. They were truly on their best “Owl” behavior! Reminder that the Back-to-School Bash is postponed until next Friday, September 15th. The times will be the same, 5:30-7:30. Also, this years Bash is free of charge.
