What a busy and fun week we’ve had at Oak Ridge!  In addition to our spirit days, we started the week with a fun assembly with the Harlem Wizards.  Yesterday, we had our traditional reading in the hallway to celebrate Read Across America Week.  We were also joined by some high school students from the Seussical Musical who visited classrooms to promote their play.  And we will close the week with our big Lip Sync event at the high school tonight!  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We had another student created Fun Friday activity today.  I love how our students get involved and come up with great classroom challenges.  Today’s Fun Friday was guessing the teacher in a series of pictures.  Three of our fabulous fourth graders put together a slide show and took the photos as a flight time passion project.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge!  Here are some more updates for the coming weeks...

I am blessed to have so many memories from my years here at Oak Ridge that fill me with pride, and today another one was added.  This year, for the first time, we ended the Holiday Sing Along with a special performance by our fifth graders singing Christmas Canon.  The students did an amazing job!  Thank you to the fifth-grade teachers for thinking of this idea and to the students for putting their hearts into their singing.  We will be sure to share the video in the first episode of News From the Nest after the holiday, which will be January 10^th .  Here are a few additional updates and reminders...

We had a great Owl Time Assembly at the end of the day.  We learned about our Character Trait of the month and heard about the good things happening in our school.  Home and School joined us at the end to Kick Off our Race of Champions Fun Run Fund Raiser.  The kids will come home today with a lanyard to register.  Our goal is to have 90% of the students register tonight.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We had a great day at Oak Ridge!  We started out with our first Fun Friday of the year.  These are fun activities each Friday that build classroom teamwork and school spirit.  Today, Mrs. Irish’s and Miss David’s classes won their classroom Owls by getting all the items from our classroom scavenger hunt to the office first.  We also had our first Home and School Sundae Bar of the year, which was a huge hit!  Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with Sundae Bar, Jump Rope Club and Kindergarten/1^st grade lunch.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We had a great week that included practicing our safety drills and reviewing safety procedures in special areas.  We will start Monday by reviewing and practicing what to do in case of an emergency during lunch time.  We never like to think about an emergency happening at school, but I am glad our students are prepared.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We had a great week at Oak Ridge, topped off with an awesome First Responders Assembly.  The kids learned about our local first responders and the role they play in our communities.  They also were able to see their vehicles and hear about the special features.  I was very proud of our students’ behavior on this hot afternoon.  Look for the footage on next week’s News From The Nest.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

Five of the books that an elementary student reads in the summer can count toward their goal of reading 25 – 30 books in the next school year.  In order to meet the standard for proficient readers, students need to read at least 25 books each year. See the Elementary Summer Reading List for Students Entering 1st through 5th Grade in 2024-2025.

We had our last Owl Time Assembly this afternoon and our kindergarteners did a great job sharing.  We also ended the assembly by letting the students know they were getting their yearbooks when they returned to class.  We reminded them of the importance of being kind when signing yearbooks over the last week.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

At Oak Ridge's annual Lip Sync, children from kindergarten through 5th grade create and perform acts.  There is also a teacher act and a 5th grade finale!  Watch the Oak Ridge Lip Sync!

Over the past two years we have had therapy dogs visit two of our learning support classrooms throughout the year.  The teachers and the district saw a variety of benefits from this program that could be offered to the whole school, so we applied for a grant to get our own therapy dog.  I am excited to share that the district was awarded the grant, so we will be sharing a therapy dog with the High School.  See the letter from Mrs. Lo and Mrs. Marzewski to explain more about our new therapy dog, Wheeler, and his role at Oak Ridge. Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

The construction is going very smoothly.  On Monday they are beginning Phase 2, which includes the gym.  This will cause us to shift our Parent Drop Off and Pick Up lines further down the sidewalk.  It will also require the pickup students to come through the lobby as the gym entrance will be blocked off.  We appreciate your patience as we navigate the new procedures.  Kids Kare will be able to return to the cafeteria entrance for drop off and pick up.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

I am very excited to share that Oak Ridge is about to get a Face Lift.  You may have noticed the bricks falling off the ‘front’ side of our building.  In the opening to this week’s News From The Nest I explain to the kids that when we return from break the construction will be under way (weather permitting).  We have begun planning for the impact that the construction will have on specific areas.  I will keep you updated as we go, but have included a few of the important changes below along with the rest of our updates and reminders...

We had a Fun Friday at Oak Ridge!  Today’s challenge was to identify twenty mystery pictures from around the building.  SO many classes got all the answers correct and H5 and G3 were selected from the drawing.  They will pick their class owls on Monday.  Here are a few additional updates and reminders...

As part of our commitment to student safety, Souderton Area School District is excited to announce the launch of a new school bus safety program called BusPatrol.  The BusPatrol program will help make the ride to and from school safer for all students by curbing dangerous driving...
