We’ve had two great weeks to start the year and are ready for our big celebration tonight.  A big THANK YOU goes to our Home and School for organizing tonight’s Bash.  The playground opens at 5:30pm and we go until around 7:00pm.  Hope to see everyone tonight!  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.  The Oak Ridge Home & School board and committee chairs have been hard at work preparing for a great year.  Each month, you will get an email with a link to our newsletter - the News in a Nutshell smore.  Please see this smore for many upcoming events - including our first Home & School meeting on September 3, our Back to School Bash on September 6, and our Fun Run on October 18!  Get engaged and make sure you have your information printed in this year's directory - you will find that and more in this month's smore! 

It's going to be a great year!  

Classroom supplies will be provided for students, but if you would like to purchase some of your own materials, suggested lists of supplies by grade to bring with you on the first day of school are available on our School Supply Lists page.

Five of the books that an elementary student reads in the summer can count toward their goal of reading 25 – 30 books in the next school year.  In order to meet the standard for proficient readers, students need to read at least 25 books each year. See the Elementary Summer Reading List for Students Entering 1st through 5th Grade in 2024-2025.

We had our last Owl Time Assembly this afternoon and our kindergarteners did a great job sharing.  We also ended the assembly by letting the students know they were getting their yearbooks when they returned to class.  We reminded them of the importance of being kind when signing yearbooks over the last week.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

What a fun and busy day we had at Oak Ridge!  Our third grade headed to the zoo for a field trip, fourth graders presented their biography projects, and Home and School hosted a Sundae Bar at lunch.  Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the trip, the ice cream, the Jump Rope Club and thanks to all the special guests who came and supported our fourth graders.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

At Oak Ridge's annual Lip Sync, children from kindergarten through 5th grade create and perform acts.  There is also a teacher act and a 5th grade finale!  Watch the Oak Ridge Lip Sync!

Over the past two years we have had therapy dogs visit two of our learning support classrooms throughout the year.  The teachers and the district saw a variety of benefits from this program that could be offered to the whole school, so we applied for a grant to get our own therapy dog.  I am excited to share that the district was awarded the grant, so we will be sharing a therapy dog with the High School.  See the letter from Mrs. Lo and Mrs. Marzewski to explain more about our new therapy dog, Wheeler, and his role at Oak Ridge. Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

The construction is going very smoothly.  On Monday they are beginning Phase 2, which includes the gym.  This will cause us to shift our Parent Drop Off and Pick Up lines further down the sidewalk.  It will also require the pickup students to come through the lobby as the gym entrance will be blocked off.  We appreciate your patience as we navigate the new procedures.  Kids Kare will be able to return to the cafeteria entrance for drop off and pick up.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

A big thank you goes out to High School Teacher and Coach Mike Child’s and the Souderton Baseball Team for coming to Oak Ridge yesterday to support our fifth graders during their Probability Baseball Draft.  Fifth grade will be using the last few weeks of WIN time to enrich their knowledge of statistics and probability through a fun baseball unit.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

There have been a few questions about how we are handling the eclipse on Monday.  We won’t be doing any special viewings with the kids, but teachers will be discussing the eclipse, and many will be visiting some of the websites tracking the event.  If you would like to sign your child out to experience the event as a family, please just send a note in with your child on Monday.  The dismissal will be excused.  It would be helpful if they were signed out by 2:30 to avoid our regular dismissal process.  Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend...

I am very excited to share that Oak Ridge is about to get a Face Lift.  You may have noticed the bricks falling off the ‘front’ side of our building.  In the opening to this week’s News From The Nest I explain to the kids that when we return from break the construction will be under way (weather permitting).  We have begun planning for the impact that the construction will have on specific areas.  I will keep you updated as we go, but have included a few of the important changes below along with the rest of our updates and reminders...

I want to thank everyone for the support we had for our recess sledding adventures earlier in the week.  I was so impressed with how well the kids handled sharing the sleds, waiting turns, and cheering each other on.  Overall, we are hoping that we helped to create some more positive school memories for the students that they will remember for a long time.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We started the day with our first Fun Friday of 2024 with a classroom scavenger hunt.  Mrs. Derstine’s and Mrs. D’s classes won their class owls by being the first intermediate and primary classes to gather all items, but all the classes seemed to enjoy working as a team.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

I am overwhelmed with pride following our Veterans Day assembly.  The students did such an amazing job singing, listening, and presenting.  They were truly on their best “Owl” behavior!  The Veterans were so thankful for the kind tribute, and many expressed how impressed they were with our students.  Overall, it was a great learning experience for our students.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We had a Fun Friday at Oak Ridge!  Today’s challenge was to identify twenty mystery pictures from around the building.  SO many classes got all the answers correct and H5 and G3 were selected from the drawing.  They will pick their class owls on Monday.  Here are a few additional updates and reminders...

Our first Fun Friday activity was a success.  We have many well-traveled students!  In the end, Mr. Smith’s class won the first classroom Owl with 46 states visited.  I was also impressed with the several students who memorized to Nifty Fifty song.  Thank you for all your help with this activity!  Here are a few additional updates and reminders for the week...
