Updates and Reminders - May 10, 2024
Thank you to all the families who made it out to our Open House last night. It was so nice to see such a large crowd join us to celebrate a successful year. Here are some additional updates and reminders as we head into the weekend:
- Thank you to our amazing Home and School and to all the parents who showered us with kindness this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. We are so blessed to work with such kind and thoughtful families.
- As an appreciation to all who volunteered their time to make our school year special, we are having an informal Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, May 31st from 8:45-10:00am. Please feel free to stop in and enjoy some homecooked breakfast items prepared by the staff.
- And speaking of Volunteers, Mr. Kelly and Home and School are working together to recruit volunteers to run games and other important stations during Field Day, which is on Friday, May 24th. Here is the link to the Sign-Up Genius.
- Here are next week’s letters and activities in our Z-A Countdown.
- Monday- P: Pajama Day: Wear your PJs to school.
- Tuesday- O: Orange/Opposite Day: Wear orange and find ways to show opposites.
- Wednesday- N: Nature Day: Find time to explore the outdoors today.
- Thursday- M: Music Day: Make some music today.
- Friday- L: Library/Listening Day: Listen to a good story.
- Our Oak Ridge Spring Flea Market Fundraiser is coming up on Saturday 5/18 from 8-11am. There is still time to register to sell, just send an email to oakridgefleamarket@gmail.com with your info. There will be a bake sale at this event too. We are looking for baked good donations as well as market volunteers. Please use this Sign-Up Genius if you're able to help. Home & School is also collecting donations of household items, books, toys, clothes, and more to sell at the Flea Market. If you have items you would like to donate or for more information, please send an email to OakRidgeFundraising465@yahoo.com.
- We have begun our initial placement discussions for next year. As we work to create new classroom communities, we encourage you to share any social issues that you want us to take into consideration, or if you are hoping for your child to have a different path than an older sibling. With the complexity of the process, we are unable to take specific teacher requests. Please email me directly by Friday, May 17th for consideration.
- Over the past two years we have had therapy dogs visit two of our learning support classrooms throughout the year. The teachers and the district saw a variety of benefits from this program that could be offered to the whole school, so we applied for a grant to get our own therapy dog. I am excited to share that the district was awarded the grant, so we will be sharing a therapy dog with the High School. See the letter from Mrs. Lo and Mrs. Marzewski to explain more about our new therapy dog, Wheeler.
- Here is the latest episode of News From the Nest.
Finally, we are wishing all the amazing Oak Ridge moms a happy Mother's Day! Enjoy your special day this weekend!
Thank you for your continued support!
