Updates and Reminders - August 25, 2025

The staff is very excited to start the school year tomorrow!  We are anxious to have children back in the building, ready to learn.  Here are a couple of updates and reminders as we head into the school year:

  • In addition to getting to know their teachers and classmates, one of our top goals for the first day (and first few weeks) is to make sure the kids get home safely and without any confusion.  Please review with your child their means of transportation for the end of the day.  Missing a bus is not the end of the world, but we try our best to avoid it as much as possible.  Just a reminder that parents dropping off should follow the big loop around the parking lot and drop their child off in the drop off zone.  This will be marked with cones at the start of the year.

  • If you are planning on taking pictures in the front of the school, please park in the lot and carefully walk your child to the sidewalk.  We try to make sure the drop off line is as safe as possible.  You can help by being patient in the line, as little ones are learning to buckle and unbuckle themselves.  Please do not pass other cars in the line and drive slowly.  Thank you!
  • Drop-off starts at 8:25 and all students should be in the building by 8:40. If you arrive after the staff has entered the building, please park and walk your child in so you can sign them in.  Pick-up at the end of the day is from 3:25 until 3:40. For our veteran parents, please note that pick up is five minutes later than last year.
  • Thursday, August 28th is Back to School Night from 6:00-7:30.  The night begins in your child’s homeroom with a brief video from me and Home and School.  Then there are three twenty minute sessions for families with multiple children.
  • Home and School is need of volunteers to assist with kindergarten and 1st grade lunch from 10:35am-11:30am. Volunteers will assist students with opening their foods, navigating the cafeteria, and cleaning up. If you are interested, please sign up. We ask that each person sign up for no more than 2 slots to allow everyone an opportunity to help. Home & School will re-solicit for additional sign-ups if spots still remain.
  • Home & School invites you to attend the annual Back to School Bash on Friday, September 5th from 5:30 to 7:30. This year we will also be celebrating Oakie’s 35th Birthday! There will be entertainment, pizza, and snacks available for families of Oak Ridge. To help Home & School prepare for the event, please RSVP.
  • The first Home & School meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2nd at 7:00pm in the library. A link to join virtually will be posted in the Home & School Facebook group. We hope you can join us to hear all about the exciting things we have planned for this school year!

Best wishes for a great start to school for your family.  Please know that if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year you can reach out any time.  Our goal is for all the students to have a great year and to love coming to school.
