Updates and Reminders - Sept. 14, 2023

The students and staff did a great job with our ALICE drills today.  Officer Devlin, our school resource officer, was on hand, and he expressed how impressed he was with how smoothly the drills went.  Here are some additional updates and reminders for the week:

  • Tomorrow will be an Oak Ridge Spirit Day.  Students are encouraged to wear green or Oak Ridge spirit wear.

  • The Back to School Bash is tomorrow night from 5:30-7:30.  Unfortunately, I had previous plans scheduled so I will not be able to make it.  Mr. Kelly will be on hand playing tunes and keeping the crowd active and Home and School will be providing snacks, fruit, and soft pretzels this year.  There will be no pizza, but no charge for the event.  Hope everyone can come out and celebrate the great start to our school year!

  • Next week we will have our first Owl Time assembly.  These assemblies are times we gather as a school to learn about things happening around the building and to celebrate recent successes.  They happen almost once a month and are a great way to build community.

  • One of our Favorite Owl Time assemblies is our Veteran’s Day assembly.  Every other year we honor Veterans or First Responders.  This year on November 10th we will honor our Veterans.  In next week’s update I will include a sign-up form for families who would like to invite a Veteran to be honored at our assembly.  Our host students introduce their Veteran to the school and the students sing songs and learn about the various ways Veterans have served our country.

  • There is no school on Monday, September 25th in observance of Yom Kippur.

  • Wednesday, October 4th is Picture Day.

  • Thursday, October 5th is Walk to School Day.  Each year we meet at the Alderfer Park Pavilion at 8:00am and we walk the path to school.  It is always a great way to start our day.

Thank you for your continued support!
