Updates and Reminders - November 1, 2024
Thank you to all the families who were able to come out and cheer on the students during the Fall Parade and to those who helped during the socials! Thanks to the staff for joining in the fun with their book character costumes and a big thanks to Mr. Kelly for MCing the event. Below are some additional updates and reminders:
- Home & School's Family Bingo Night is happening tonight, Friday, November 1st! This is a free event that starts at 6pm in the gym. Please also consider bringing non-perishable food items for Keystone Opportunity Center.
- Tuesday, November 5th is election day and an In-Service day for teachers. There is no school for students. Home and School is offering a Painting With a Twist event that day. Information on how to sign up was sent home on a flyer last week.
- Picture Retake Day is Monday, November 11th. Please see the Picture Retake day flyer for more information.
- As part of the many things that are sent home during the start of the school year, the student/parent mobile device use agreement and the device protection fee link is included in that communication. This year we have a significant number of families that have not gone through that process yet. We will be sending home notification next Wednesday, but if you know you haven’t yet completed the device paperwork and payment, you can follow those links.
- On this week’s episode of News From The Nest, I have some helpers assist me in explaining our end of the day Flight Time. Flight Time is 25 minutes at the end of the day where students are engaged in various activities. Here are some examples:
- In Classroom Activities
- Support from the teacher individually or in a small group.
- Pushing their skill development at their level with programs like IXL and FIM among others.
- Challenging themselves with brainteasers, puzzles and other challenges.
- Working on a self-guided Passion Project, where they can research, build or learn a new skill.
- Catch up on work they missed due to an absence or a music lesson.
- Activities Out of the Classroom
- Academic supports like Fundations, reading, writing, and math groups
- Support for social skills embedded in games, school service projects, and team building in Fitness.
- Supporting strengths like writing, art, music, and tech groups.
- Supporting our school with groups like News From The Nest, Wise Owls and Playshop help.
- In Classroom Activities
Our goal for this time is to help students discover their interest and to support their growth in all areas of learning. We are still working out the kinks and developing the time as we go, but are hoping to eventually include parent volunteers in our efforts in engaging students in their own academic, social and emotional development. You can hear and see more about it in this week’s episode of News From The Nest!
